The months ahead are full of a lot of uncewrtainty in a number of ways. In the publishing indutry, this is especially true. At present all of the major printers are booked through til 2021. Why does that matter? As the holidays approach, if any book sells out its print run, we likely won't see that book available again until 2021. This is especially important to note with hardcover books and more specifically, books with color like cookbooks. Collectively, independent bookstores nationwide, along with our organization, the American Bookseller Association, is encouraging folks to preorder as much as possible in the month of October. This ensures a number of these books are printed enough and that you get the copy you want. We've collected some of the books we think are the most important/highest risk for the holiday season.
