May Book Club Discussions
Spring is here! Kind of. Maybe. We'll see.
You know you want to take a book outside with you - make it one of these!
Note: Due to a conflicting event, May's book club discussion will take place on TUES the 15th (not the second Thurs)
Book of the Month: The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
6:30pm - An Indie Next Pick from January (This means booksellers across the country nominated the novel to be featured!), The Immortalists is a favorite of the store - Co-owner (and discussion leader) Rebecca says this:
"An absolutely stunning book. Benjamin begins with such a simple framework - what would one do if they, as a child, were given the date of their death. How would you live if you knew you would die young or very old? This book tore me apart several times, and yet I could not stay away. By far, this is one of my favorite books coming out this winter. The Immortalists is brave. It is powerful. It is a book you'll remember & want to chat about for years to come."
Sci-fi/Fantasy: Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente
7:00pm - Full disclosure: We haven't read this one yet! We'll be experiencing it for the first time right along with you - and we are sooo excited. It sounds ridiculous. And Glittery. And Hitchhiker's Guide-esque. And awesome. Check out this NPR Book Review and try telling us you don't want to read it.
Feminist: How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor
8:00pm - A powerful collection of essays reflecting on the legacy of the trailblazing Combahee River Collective. Check out this interview with Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!
