March Book Club Discussions!
All three clubs are back in business:
Book of the Month: The Crown Ain't Worth Much - Hanif Willis-Abdurraqib
If you've been in the store recently, you may have had Hanif Abdurraqib's newest book, They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us, shoved into your hands. It's an amazing collection of essays that use music and culture as a lens through which to view our world. It made us want to read everything Abdurraqib, so we're super excited to be bringing in his first full-length poetry collection to read and handsell and talk about!
Sci-fi/Fantasy: Semiosis - Sue Burke
We are very excited to be hosting the book launch for Sue Burke's debut - a earthling colonists/first-contact novel in the newer sub-genre of sci-fi with an ecological bent. How would one interact with the flora and fauna if the rules are different? Despite familairity, nothing acts or interacts the way earthlings would expect. Learning to survive WITH the planet instead of ON a planet makes for a fascinating experiment in science and in fiction. Come by on Feb 6th to join in on the fun and get your hands on a signed copy!
Feminist: Communion: The Female Search for Love - Bell Hooks
A collection of accessible feminist essays that investigates Love and the political, cultural, and social roots of why it's difficult for women to be fulfilled by "love". A great title for anyone interested in exploring our complex humanity, by a classic feminist writer!
