Mostly Nights and Weekends. Typically between 2-9:30pm or anytime on weekends. 

Bookseller Duties include:

·         Providing Friendly, Accurate and Consistent Customer Service

·         Alphabetizing and shelving books, which includes

Sometimes carrying boxes of books

Sometimes carrying books up and down stairs

·         Keeping up to date on current popular books and forthcoming books.

·         Keeping the bookstore clean. This means sometimes mopping, dusting, cleaning cafe equipment, bathrooms and picking up after guests. 

·         Balancing the cash drawer.

·         Staffing off-site author events and book tables.

·         Taking and relaying accurate phone messages.

-    Working with children

-    Great attention to detail.


  • Being fully trained in barista skills. Making a variety of drinks as needed. 

  • Food handling Certification and BASSET Liquor certification

  • Keeping Cafe and Cafe equipment clean.

  • Restocking cafe as needed.

  • Making a variety of hot and cold beverages, sometimes in a high volume situation.

  • Washing dishes throughout the day/evening. 

Other Duties As Needed. 


What We're Looking For:

  • Priority is given to applicants who have worked with books either in a bookstore or a library.

  • Priority is given to applicants who have retail experience. Volumes serves a diverse community – readers. You should have an appreciation and respect for people of all races, genders, sexual orientation, socio-economic class etc.

  • You should have a more than general knowledge of basic computer skills. We'll train you to use our quirky inventory system, but it's best if you can contribute skills we constantly need. These include, but are not limited to: Email, Canva or Adobe Photoshop, Mailchimp, Drupal (or a web system similar), Business side of Social Media, Hootsuite, Slack and much much more. 

  • You should have a flexible schedule. Nights and weekends are important and a big part of what we do. 

  • Reliable transportation is a must.
