JUNE 20th - Dave Weigel - The Show That Never Ends
Volumes Bookcafe and Reckless Records are pleased to welcome journalist Dave Weigel on Tuesday, June 20th at 7pm as he discusses his new book, The Show That Never Ends: The Rise and Fall of Prog Rock, with Scott Tobias. This event is free and open to the public and will be hosted at Volumes Bookcafe, 1474 N. Milwaukee Avenue.
Spanning five decades, The Show That Never Ends is both a narrative history and an affirmation of progressive rock as “a grand cultural detour” that made possible much of the music that is popular today. Weigel relies on his own conversations with prog rock legends as well memoirs, radio interviews, TV interviews, and third-person band histories to reconstruct time and place. As he narrates the rise and fall of various bands, Weigel brilliantly describes what made their music progressive. A book for serious music lovers, The Show That Never Ends is a powerful portrait of how progressive rock bands formed and evolved--and why they still matter to musicians today.
